Welcome to 141 Miles. These terms cover what you can do here, what we can do, and how we handle the stuff you submit. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use the site.
Who runs this
141 Miles is operated by Total Emphasis LLC, a New York limited liability company. When these terms say “we,” “us,” or “141 Miles,” that’s who we mean. For any questions: keith@141miles.com.
Acceptable use
Use the site like a normal person. Read it, sign up for the newsletter, spend your Sand Dollars, submit a tip or a price. Don’t scrape it for resale. Don’t hammer the API. Don’t impersonate someone else, post spam, attempt to break into accounts that aren’t yours, or submit content that’s illegal, harassing, or fraudulent. Don’t try to bypass the rate limits or bot-detection on submission forms. We reserve the right to block, slow, or close accounts that do.
Your contributions
Anything you submit (Sand Dollar one-liners, town tips, error reports, price observations + photos, attribute confirmations) stays yours. By submitting it, you grant 141 Miles a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to display, edit (for clarity, typos, or brevity), and aggregate it on the site and in our newsletter. The license ends when you delete the content or your account. The one exception: if your content has been quoted or aggregated into editorial copy (a roundup article, a ranking justification), removing your underlying contribution doesn’t automatically remove that derivative copy. Email us if you want it pulled in a specific case and we’ll figure it out together.
Don’t submit content you don’t have the right to share. Don’t submit other people’s photos or copyrighted text without permission. If you submit a photo of a menu board or a price tag, you’re telling us it’s your photo or you have the right to share it. We may remove anything that turns out not to be.
Our content
The editorial guides, town pages, rankings, articles, and the site design are all copyright Total Emphasis LLC. You’re welcome to read, link, quote a few sentences with credit, or share a link on social media. You aren’t welcome to copy-paste full articles to a competing site, train an AI model on the corpus, or republish without permission. If you want to license something for use elsewhere, email us.
No paid placement
Nothing on 141 Miles is paid placement. No business has paid for a Sand Dollar, a ranking position, an editorial mention, an article inclusion, or any other promotional surface. If that ever changes, we’ll label sponsored content clearly and update these terms first.
Editorial discretion
We moderate submissions. We may decline to publish a tip, decline to add a place to a ranking, or remove content we think is wrong, misleading, off-topic, or harmful. We don’t owe an explanation, but we generally give one. If we close your account for repeated violations of these terms, we’ll send you an email saying so.
Accuracy
We try hard to be accurate. We pull live data for weather, tides, beach rules, and parking; we cite editorial sources for “best of” mentions; we moderate user submissions. Even so, hours change, beaches close, restaurants shut down, prices go up, surf conditions shift hour by hour. The site is informational. For anything load-bearing (a 9pm reservation, a $200 dinner, a long drive), call the place or check the official source. If you spot something wrong, the “Spot an error?” button on every place page goes straight to us.
Third-party links
We link out a lot. Restaurant websites, Instagram profiles, NJ.com articles, Google Maps. We don’t control what’s on those sites and we’re not responsible for it. Their terms and privacy policies are their own.
No warranty
The site is provided “as is.” We don’t warrant that it’ll always be available, error-free, or accurate. Total Emphasis LLC, its members, and its employees are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the site, to the maximum extent allowed by law. If you live in a jurisdiction that limits liability waivers (some US states, EU), this limitation applies to the extent permitted there.
Account termination
You can delete your account anytime from the profile page. We can suspend or close accounts for material violations of these terms with notice (email). On termination, your account data is deleted; your prior contributions stay up unless you ask us to remove them.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. For material changes (rights you have, content licensing, liability scope), we’ll send a notice to account holders by email.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute is resolved in the state or federal courts of Kings County, New York, and you consent to jurisdiction there.
