The Shore Index
Named rankings of every Jersey Shore town. Curated, not aggregated.
Every town on the Jersey Shore is different. Some are family destinations; some are nightlife towns. Some have the cheapest beaches; some are walking distance from a brewery. The Shore Index is how 141 Miles publishes that. Each index ranks the 82 Shore towns by one thing — family vibe, nightlife scene, brewery count, beach badge price — with the methodology shown up top so you can argue with the call instead of guessing how the list got made.
No paid placement. No aggregate ratings. Some indexes are pure data (Brewery Index = how many breweries each town has). Some are editorial calls (Best Family Town blends our editor’s familyScore with how many family-friendly places exist and how painful the parking is). Every index says what it’s measuring.

How rankings work
Each index applies its own scoring function to the same town population (82 Shore towns from Sandy Hook to Cape May Point). Editorial scores come from 141 Miles editors and are reviewed quarterly. Factual data (place counts, beach badge prices) is pulled from the live database and reflects the most recent verified values. We exclude towns from a given ranking when they lack the required data — for example, towns without an editorial familyScore don’t appear in the Family ranking, and towns without ocean access don’t appear in the Beach Cost ranking.
